Hermes Trismegistus (from Ancient Greek: Ἑρμῆς ὁ Τρισμέγιστος, “Hermes the Thrice-Greatest”) is a legendary Hellenistic figure who originated as a syncretic combination of the Greek god Hermes and the Egyptian god Thoth. He is understood to be the author of the Hermetica, a diverse series of ancient and medieval texts that are the basis of various widespread philosophical systems known as Hermeticism.
