Scarce edition of Holbein’s famous work. There is much speculation about whether the engravings in this edition were actually produced by Thomas Bewick. Although the title page specifies that the woodcuts are indeed those of “Mr. Bewick,” there seems to be a departure from the medieval style typical of Bewick’s works. With several exceptions, the cuts are imitations of the original Holbein.
Very Scarce Edition!
Condition: original leather boards, gilt title to spine, the edges of the spine were tended to using japanese paper- professionally done, some browning to the blanks, other wise a nice clean copy in Very Good condition!
