Beautiful full leather binding of the rare first edition of The Text-Book of Astrology, Vol. I by A.J. Pearce; prominent late 19th-century English astrologer and author.
With a manuscript letter signed from Alfred J. Pearce, dated October 5, 1892, on his Hammersmith letterhead, addressed to a correspondent Oswald C. Goepel in the United States, outlining his professional services as an astrologer, including the preparation of nativities (“horoscopes”) at a fee of £5, as well as instruction over a course of lessons, and the rectification of birth times through past events. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.
Bound at rear are several leaves filled in manuscript in the hand of Goepel, comprising contemporary astrological notes and study material. These include copied passages (one marked “Copied” with reference to page 54), technical definitions, and a hand-drawn astrological chart, along with worked examples of nativities. Several printed astrological clippings are pasted in and annotated in the same hand, with cross-references to the text.
