George Oliver was an English cleric, schoolmaster, topographer who wrote extensively on Theology and Freemasonry. The present publication exhibits a graphic display of the sayings and doings of eminent free and accepted Masons. The author states "If anyone is desirous of being a Mason, in the stict sense of the word, he must make himself acquainted with something more than words, signs, and tokens. The three stages of initiation can no more convert a man into a Mason, than the indenture of an apprentice can make him a mechanic...there is no Royal road to Freemasonry. The Gordian knot can be untied by dilligence and application alone..."
Condition: publishers blue cloth boards with decorative gilt spine, spine corners damaged, leaning to spine, darkening to front board. and heavier staining to the rear boards, generally light foxing to some pages but heavy to one of the illustrations (see photo), bookplate to pastedown, all pages remain clean, foldout present and in nice condition, remains tightly bound, in Very Good condition
