Lays of Ancient Rome by Thomas Babington Macaulay

Publication: 1855 Longman, Brown, Green; London

The work is a collection of narrative poems by Thomas Babington Macaulay, a British historian, essayist, and politician. It consists of ballads that recreate heroic episodes from early Roman history and legend, written in a style designed to evoke the patriotic and oral storytelling one might imagine among ancient Roman citizens.

Contains "Horatius," one of the most commonly memorized poems of the 19th century.

Condition: Full calf with decorative gilt paneling to the covers, five raised bands, and leather spine label. A few small black specks to the covers, some scuffing along the edges, marbled endpapers, gift inscription to the verso of the front endpaper, and scattered foxing throughout. All edges gilt. Overall in very good condition.
