The Chaldean Account of Genesis by George Smith
Publication: 1880 Charles Scribner's Sons Second Enlarged edition (preceded by the first american and first UK edition)
Scarce early edition of The Chaldean Account of Genesis by the English Assyriologist George Smith, in which he assembled and translated the creation and flood myths of ancient Babylonia and Assyria from surviving cuneiform fragments. The work was influential not only among scholars of the religious history of the ancient Near East but also among later esoteric writers. It was notably consulted by Helena Petrovna Blavatsky during the composition of The Secret Doctrine, and was frequently referenced by Manly P. Hall in his discussions of ancient cosmology and myth.
