The Temple Artisan "Mysticism, Social Science, and Ethics"
Publication: 1904-2000 The Temple of the People; Halcyon, California
583 issues, with the original wrappers preserved in all volumes, although some early issues were issued with only paper wrappers.
This rare compilation consists of 583 issues of the theosophical periodical “The Temple Artisan.” Published quarterly by the Temple of the People, a theosophical group based in Halcyon, California, the organization was founded by Dr. William Dower and Francia La Due. The periodical covers a wide range of esoteric subjects, focusing on theosophy, spirituality, mysticism, divination, meditation, Eastern religions, and social justice. The temple's strong roots in theosophy are clearly evident in the articles published within.
It is unlikely that a collection of this size has ever been made available for sale before. Previous sales and auction records suggest that only individual copies or occasional hardbound volumes have surfaced.
This particular set comes from the collection of Mark Hall-Patton, who acquired it directly from the Temple in Halcyon, California. He occasionally lectures about the Temple, including a recent talk for The Zamorano Club. The collection features a mix of individual issues, hardcovers, and booklets that were uniformly bound by the Temple itself. Most of the early issues are bound together as booklets in thick green and cream paper, while most of the later issues are loose.
The issues span from 1904 to 2000, with at least a couple of dozen volumes representing each decade. A complete list of volumes and issues is available upon request.
Condition: copies are clean of marking save the occasional pencil inscription, two of the hardcover volumes have repairs along the spine, overall very well preserved in Very Good condition.
