Tibetan Book of the Dead by W.Y. Evans-Wentz
Publisher: 1960 Oxford University Press 3rd Edition 2nd impression
The best known work from anthropologist and Tibetan Yoga pioneer Walter Yeeling Evans-Wentz. This book came from the personal collection of Yvonne Rand who was also a pioneer in Buddhist studies, and is inscribed with her name on the front fly leaf.
This is the book that served as the Introduction to Tibetan Buddhist thought for several generations of Westerners. This edition includes Psychological commentary by C.G. Jung, a Foreword by Sir John Woodroffe, and a Preface by Evans-Wentz. Spine slightly faded & canted, bit of light rubbing and bumping to spine ends, corners, and edges.
Condition: Original gilt-decorated green cloth boards, all pages are clean with no markings, front fly leaf is inscribed by Soto Zen priest and previous owner ‘Yvonne Rand’ and additional unknown inscription crossed out. The title on spine is slightly faded, but the book remains well preserved, this book also includes the dust jacket which often eludes these edition. Albeit, the jacket does contain some tears as seen in the photos. Overall the book is in Very Good condition.
