This is one of the “Release Party” Copies with the rubber-stamped copyright page (# 37)
Provenance: The present copy originates from the personal collection of Don McGaffin (1926-2005), who worked as a TV investigative reporter and commentator in Seattle for 16 years, from 1968 to 1983. He was actively involved in many controversial issues and earned recognition for his pursuit of scandals and corruption at the highest levels. According to his wife, he was close friends with Milo Johnstone. The book remained in his wife’s possession until our recent acquisition.
In 1994, Milo crafted and published “The Magic Decade,” a captivating book that chronicles the vibrant events in Seattle from the lively coffee house folk scene of the early 1960s to the spirited “Be-Ins,” mesmerizing outdoor acid rock concerts, and passionate anti-war demonstrations of the early 1970s. This remarkable work is enriched with a rich collection of photographs, vibrant posters, and evocative clippings that bring to life the culture of that transformative era. To celebrate the release, Milo hosted a lively book-signing party at the Eastlake Zoo, which evolved into a nostalgic reunion concert featuring iconic bands such as The Daily Flash and The Time Machine, along with many other talented musicians who defined what is now fondly remember as the Magic Decade.
