At the Feet of the Master by “Alcyone” J. Krishnamurti
Publication: 1911 The Rajput Press; First American Edition
First published in 1910 by The Theosophical Society. At The Feet of the Master is considered a spiritual classic. The author of the text was listed as Alcyone which was a pseudonym of Jiddu Krishnamurti, the name was assigned by his mentor, controversial Theosophist, C.W. Leadbeater. The book was purportedly written when Krishnamurti was only 14 years of age. The title was assigned by prominent theosophist Annie Besant, who was also Krishnamurtis legal guardian. This was partly the cause of the early controversy regarding the authors ‘true’ identity. The book was closely related to the World Teacher Project launched as a messianic endeavor by the Theosophical Society. At The Feet of The Master quickly gained popularity and the book was republished excessively during the 1920s. The first issue of this work is seldom seen on the market, this first American edition is also quite scarce.
