Eliphas Levi and the French Occult Revival by Christopher McIntosh
Publication: 1974 Samuel Weiser First US Edition Signed by Author Christopher McIntosh in 2019 on the fly leaf
A serious study of the life and work of Eliphas Levi (Alphonse Louis Constant: 1810 – 1875), one of the most significant figures of the nineteenth century occult revival. He was the author of a number of important – and entertaining – books on magic, and is perhaps best remembered as being the first to publicly identify the 22 Cards of the Major Arcana of the Tarot with the 'pathways' on the Kabbalistic "Tree of Life." It is perhaps some indication of his stature that no less a person than Aleister Crowley claimed to be both his reincarnation and occult successor.
Condition: Original grey cloth slightly faded boards, gilt title on spine, clean pages, very good dust jacket, the book is inscribed by Christopher McIntosh on the fly leaf, the only flaw to this book is that the title page was purged.
