Publication: 1890 J.B. Lippincott Company First Edition
"A rare first edition and first of three volumes, it comprises a lengthy Preface, and then two parts: the first "The Things that Are" and the second an extract from the works of Plotinus: "The Nature of the Good and the One." This volume is completely anonymous, although contemporary advertisements reveal it to have been written by "Styx" of the Hermetic Brotherhood of Light. The catalogue of the Harry Houdini library identifies the author as one Jonathan S. McDonald but we do not know on what basis."
