Eight Lectures by the Swami Vivekananda on Karma Yoga

The present edition is an association copy, inscribed and signed by Charles Malloy. Malloy was a close personal friend of Swami Vivekananda, and a disciple of Ralph Waldo Emerson. All three were photographed together at Green Acre, alongside a young Ralph Waldo Trine, in a photo held at the Eliot Baha'i Archives dated 1894. 

Green Acre was the meeting ground of many progressives of the time, it was a dedicated center to the ideals of peace and religious unity and brought together renowned writers, educators, philosophers, artists, and activists from all over the world. The inscription in the present volume was written while Malloy was visit at the famous Green Acre in Maine. In the inscription Malloy laments: 

"Green Acre - Fair Fields and the quests and the river, if I may not see you again I shall yet find your pictures Forever, in the halls of my castles in Spain. Charles Malloy August 15, 1896"

The book itself is a rare first edition of Karma Yoga published under the auspices of the Vedanta Society. It contains Eight Lectures Delivered in New York in the Winter of 1895-6 by the Swami Vivekananda on Karma Yoga.. Original $1.00 price listing on cover page. Includes several subjects on karma, from the perspective of the classical paths to spiritual liberation in Hinduism. Lectures include; karma yoga is the path of unselfish action; Karma in Its Effect on Character, Each is Great in His Own Place, What is duty, We Help Ourselves Not the World, Non Attachment is Complete Abnegation, Freedom, The Ideal of Karma Yoga...

Condition: publishers gray colored boards, stamped to front, with some soiling and wear along spine edges and corners, there is a 1 inch tear that runs through the inner part of pages 12 through 20 near the gutter, a couple of other pages with small half inch tears- text unaffected, some foxing to pages, no markings, clean copy, in Very Good condition. Rare.
