Le Comte de Gabalis Abbé Nicholas de Villars and The Irreconcilable Gnomes by Antoine Androl

Publication: 1983 Philosophical Publishing Company scarce Presentation Copy although i do not have a source of reference as to whom or for which occasion this was presented for. This is the only copy i have come across with such an imprint.

The Comte supposedly initiated de Villars into the occult sciences, introducing him to the elemental realms etc. In 1711 Alexander Pope wrote of quaintly of de Villars book "The Rosicrucians are a people I must bring you acquainted with. The best account I know of them is in a French book call'd Le Comte de Gabalis, which both in its title and size is so like a novel, that many of the Fair Sex read it for one by mistake." Clearly Pope, and other later writers like Bulwer Lytton, viewed the work more as a vessel for the subtle spread of esoteric knowledge and Rosicrucianism than a work of fiction. This particular edition is almost as enigmatic as the Count himself.

Condition: Publishers cloth boards, presentation copy gilt stamp to front board, pages are clean, binding tight, in-fact this book was still wrapped in cellophane when i acquired it a couple of years back, i opened the book for the purpose of inspecting it, condition Fine
