The Road to Self-Knowledge focuses on  eight medications in which Steiner attempt to guide the reader in understanding the self through various bodies; physical, elemental, etheric, Astral, ego-body, thought-body, and their building through the supersensible worlds.

The Threshold of the Spiritual World includes sixteen parts in which Steiner gives, in an aphoristic form, a description of the various parts of the universe and the human being that come into view when spiritual knowledge crosses the boundary between the physical and spiritual world.
