The Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha of The Old Testament
Edited in conjunction with many scholars by R.H. Charles
Apocrypha 1983 - Pseudepigrapha 1984
The Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha are of immense value as windows into the development of biblical interpretation, theology, ethics, and liturgy in Early Judaism and Christianity, as well as into the sociocultural and historical contexts within which these developments occurred. The two volumes here include those books that were excluded from Christendom at the council of Nicaea and those texts with a false attribution of authorship, though the collection has come to include several anonymous texts as well.
Since there are no written account of the council there are many speculative and mysterious ties to its proceedings. What is certain is that it played a major role in molding Christendom to what it is today.
