Andrew Lang was a Scottish poet, novelist and literary critic. He is best known for his publications on folklore, mythology, and religion. His collections of fairy tales were illustrated bypassed Henry Justice Ford and George Percy Jacomb-Hood. Ford was a noted English illustrator who is best known for his beautiful illustrations in the present editions. The longans & Co editions have become among the most collectable books on mythology.
Illustrated with 8 full page mono plates and scores of smaller illustrations throughout the text by Ford, G. P. Jacomb-Hood and Lancelot Speed. Containing some of the best known tales from around the world - the Arabian Nights, Sleeping Beauty, Rumpelstiltskin, Beauty and the Beast, Hansel and Gretel, Puss in Boots & Goldilocks to name a few.
Condition: Publishers blue cloth boards, beautifully decorated gilt cover and spine, ,spine edges with wear, leaning to spine, gilded edges, prelim page with picture, the exception to this volume is that the front piece, title page, and illustrations on page 3 and 12 have been colored in by crayon (see photos) all other pages remain clean, 1 inch tear to lower edge which has been mended professionally with pva archival adhesive, binding is firm, overall still in Very Good condition
