The Hymns of Hermes is the second part of Meads ‘Echos from the Gnosis’ series which was released in a total of eleven volumes edited by Mead and published by the Theosophical Publishing Co. The series of small volumes "was drawn from, or based upon, the mystic, theosophic and gnostic writings of the ancients" so as to make available to a wider audience "some echoes of the mystic experiences and initiatory lore of their spiritual ancestry."
