The Salem Seer by George C. Bartlett
Publication: 1891 by J.W. Lovell Company First Edition
The Salem Seer is an account by George Bartlett of direct experiences witnessed through the mediumship of Charles H. Foster, whom he considered "the most gifted and remarkable Spiritual Medium since Emanuel Swedenborg" - 1891 - This account was written afters mr. Fosters death.
"Foster was born in Salem, Massachusetts. He became a medium as a young man producing in his seances a phenomenon known as "skin writing", alleged names of spirits would appear on parts of his body such as his arms or forehead.[
He was also known for pellet reading. This involved séance sitters writing the names of the deceased on slips of paper that were rolled into pellets and put on a table. The pellets were mixed with blank slips. Foster would then select a pellet and without opening it, give the name of the deceased and reveal the name to his audience with a 'spirit' message."
After Mr. Fosters death in 1888, his close friend (author) George Bartlett was frequently importuned by his friends and may prominent Spiritualist to give his experience while with him. Bartlett claims to have written the Salem Seer rather reluctantly, but hoped his work would stimulate practical and scientific investigations.
