The Tarot of the Bohemians Absolute Key to Occult Science by Papus
Publication: 1958 Arcanum Books; New York
by Dr. Gerard Encausse (1865-1916), the French occultist and founder of the Martinist Order. Papus built on the work of Eliphas Levi to create one of the first major studies of the tarot as a key to esoteric initiation rather than simple divination. The book was first published in French in 1889, and an English translation (which had nothing to do with Waite) followed in 1892. The first Waite edition was published in 1910 and reissued a few times, including this 1958 Edition. The present listing is the First Issue of the Arcanum Books 1958 edition, with the $6.50 price on the dust jacket. (later reprints were bound in cream boards, lack the gold spine, and issued with $8.50 price tag on jacket)
