The Three Principles of the Divine Essence by Jacob Boehme

Publication: 1910 John Watkins First Edition Thus

Large thick octavo, 809pp

After having a variety of mystical experiences in his youth, he had a vision in 1600 in which he felt the spiritual structure of the world was laid open before him, and the relationship between good and evil explained. Although he was accused of heresy much of his world view was not out of step with Lutheran theology of the time, Boehme believed that encouraged by fallen angels, humanity had fallen from grace to a state of sin, and that it was God's will to restore it. Boehme had a third vision when he was thirty-five in which "Nature opened wide the portals of her secret chambers and laid bare before his gaze the treasures hidden in the very depths.." From this came the inspiration for this important study: 'The Three Principles of Divine Essence.' by this time Boehme was a much more refined writer, and philosopher. As compared to his earlier work of The Aurora which Boehme never intended to be made public.

His works have nspired and influenced later mystical groups such as the Rosicrucians and the Theosophists, who held him to be one of their spiritual forbears, with Mme. Blavastky speaking highly of him and his work.
