An extensive two-volume set of the 1893 World's Parliament of Religions in Chicago. This marked a historic seventeen-day gathering that brought together representatives of religions and spiritual traditions from around the world.  The gathering was attended by over 4,000 individuals and marked first major global interfaith gathering. The event introduced many Americans to Asian religious teachers and traditions for the first time; most notably Swami Vivekananda whose presentations on Hinduism would become highly influential in the United States. Leaders and scholars from 41 denominations and religious traditions were present including Buddhism, Hinduism, Judaism, Islam, Confucianism, Shintoism, Taoism, Jainism, Theosophy, and others. 

Condition: publisher's blue cloth boards, gilt title to spine, cover decorated and tooled with scriptural passage, small stamp and pen inscription to ffep of each volume, minimal foxing to outer edges, nice bright copies in Very Good condition.
