Introduction is provided by Marie Steiner (wife of Rudolf Steiner) the book compiles six lecture given in delivered in Berlin in 1911-1912 in which Steiner presents the key turning points in the history of spiritual development "His objective, to show how evolving human consciousness can lead to the experience of the Self as the spiritual essence of the human being" The lectures are broken up by historical figures who have embodied these spiritual shifts.
