Studies in Jacob Bohme by A.J. Penny

Publication: 1978 Gerstenberg Verlag Hildesheim; Leipzig

"A scarce facsimile reprint of the 1923 first edition with errata bound in. The author, Herman Vetterling (1849-1931), was born in Sweden but moved to the USA in 1871- where he abandoned his native Lutheranism and embraced the teachings of Swedenborg, whilst also exploring Buddhism and Theosophy. However, he found increasing interest in the works of thee Protestant mystic Jacob Boehme, with whom he came to feel an almost personal affinity, and devoted over a quarter of a century to the careful investigation of his teachings. It was from these studies that the present volume, a massive study of all aspects of Boehme's theosophical system was born."

Note: The 1923 edition, which this copy reproduces - is commonly cited as a "First Edition" - but in fact it is the "First Trade Edition" as it was preceded by a leather-bound edition of fifty numbered copies in 1922. Although this edition states "limited to fifty copies" it was not in fact limited to fifty copies, as this is a photographic reprint of the original. Although the exact limitation of these later reprints is not known, what we do know is that they seldom appear on the market in any edition.

Condition: Original brown faux leather with gilt title to spine and cover, very minor foxing to edges and prelim, no markings, binding firm, in Very Good clean condition
