Codex Rose Crucis D.O.M.A; a rare and curious manuscript of Rosicrucian Interest by Manly P Hall

Publication: 1974 Philosophical Research Society

This is a beautifully illustrated, revised, and enlarged edition originally published in 1938 by Manly P. Hall. The work is composed of a series of essays on historic Rosicrucian texts, along with an analysis of presumed Rosicrucians. Hall examines these subjects in impressive detail and with an unapologetic tone, often challenging both his predecessors and contemporaries while giving credit where he believes it is due.

This text is significant within the canon of Rosicrucianism, as Hall corrects many previously held misconceptions while backing his claims with historical facts. He also expertly weaves in certain esoteric themes for readers to uncover on their own.

The second half of the book includes a translation of the eighteenth-century German "D.O.M.A. manuscript," titled "Codex Rosae Crucis." Hall notes that this work encompasses various Rosicrucian interests, including alchemy, hermetic philosophy, mystic Christianity, cabalism, ceremonial magic, ontology, cosmogony, Pythagorean and Platonic numerology, Gnostic Christianity, classical pagan mythology, medicine and pharmacology, and comparative religion. He suggests that the mysterious acronym D.O.M.A. may stand for "Deo Optimo Maximo Altissimo."
