Azoth or The Star in the East by A.E. Waite
Publication: 1893 Theosophical Publishing Company; First Edition in first state binding
Described by Waite as a "guide to spiritual alchemy," AZOTH "was to be James Elliott's first publication, distributed by subscription. Lack of funds forced him, reluctantly, to transfer the book to The Theosophical Publishing Society, who had already approached Waite with a view to taking it over when their manager, Countess Wachmeister, received the prospectus. Why they wanted it remains a mystery, for it was unsympathetic to theosophical ideas ..." [R. A. Gilbert A11]. This volume has the scarce first issue binding - with gilt “Azoth” to spine.
